Country Schools
There were twelve school districts in the Town of Cadiz in 1891. The school buildings for eleven of those districts were located in the Town of Cadiz. The twelfth building was located in the Town of Jordan. Wisconsin consolidated school districts in the 1940s and 1950s. The Town of Cadiz is now part of two school districts: The School District of Monroe and Blackhawk School District.
Joint District 1 - Jordan
Joint School District 1, which was joint with the Town of Jordan, covered a small portion of Sections 1 and 2. The school building was located in the Town of Jordan.
District 1 - Michael
School District 1 covered Section 4 and most of Section 3, in addition to parts of Sections 10 and 11. The building for School District 1 was located in Section 3, at the intersection of Allen Road and Cadiz Springs Road. The building is still there, but it is now a private residence. It has been added to several times and looks sort of like a ship.
Joint District 2 - Browntown
Joint School District 2 covered most of Sections 5 and 9, plus parts of 3, 4, 8, and 10. It was a joint district with the Village of Browntown and the building is now a private residence.
District 3 - Ullom
School District 3 covered Sections 13, 14, 23 and 24, along with part of Section 11. The building for School District 3 was located on County Road B at the intersection with Ullom Road. It is now a private residence.
District 4 - Cadiz Center
School District 4 covered Sections 15, 21 and 22 plus part of Sections 16, 17, 20 and 28, The building for School District 4 is located at W8445 County Road B and is now the Cadiz Town Hall.
District 5 - Green Valley
School District 5 covered Sections 27 and 34 plus parts of Sections 26, 28, 33 and 35. The building for School District 5 is located at the intersection of Green Valley and Hale Roads and is now a private residence.
District 8 - Sanders
School District 8 covered Sections 25 and 36 and parts of Sections 26 and 35. The building for School District 8 was located on County Road P.
District 9 - Martintown
School District 9 covered Sections 31 and 32 and parts of Sections 28 and 33. The building for School District 9 is located on Martintown Road in Martintown. The building is along the Pecatonica River and floods regularly.
Joint District 7 - Franklin
Joint School District 7 covered most of Sections 1 and 2 and all of Section 12. It was a joint district with the Town of Clarno. The building for Joint School District 7 is located at the corner of Franklin and Steiner Roads and is now a private residence.
Joint District 10 - Rush
Joint School District 10 covered Sections 19, 29 and 30 and parts of Sections 17 and 20. The district was joint with the Town of Wayne. The building for Joint School District 10 is located on West River Road, at the intersection with Lincicum Road and is now a private residence.
Joint District 12 - Montgomery
Joint School District 12, also joint with the Town of Wayne, covered Sections 6 and 7, in addition to parts of Sections 5, 8 and 18. The building for Joint School District 12 was located on Dill Road and is no longer there.
District 13
School District 13 covered parts of Sections 8, 9, 16, 17, and 18. The building for School District 13 is located on County Road M, south of Browntown and is now a private residence.
The Cadiz Town Hall has a display which includes pictures of the school buildings that were located in the Town of Cadiz, along with maps and interesting facts. The display is in an 18-pane window from when the building was still a school. The display was researched and put together by local resident, Reyne Phillips.
